I have moved everything over to a new website. You can find the Study Guides, Audio Sets, and downloadable Bonus Materials at:
MagistraJonesLatin.com
I am unable to post and answer comments on this site any longer. Please link to the site above and send me your comments/questions there. I want to hear from you and answer any questions you might have. :-) Thank you!
A few samples:
Henle First Year Latin - Lesson 22.1
Upon uploading, a strange character appears in the verb defendat about three-quarters down the first page. Even though I was unable to upload it without this flaw, it does prints correctly in the Companion.

After ordering and reviewing the materials, I have found them to be an excellent resource. Highly recommended for Latin students and their instructors.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your encouraging comment. I'm so happy you found them useful. :-)
ReplyDeleteDo your guides contain all the lessons and exercises?
ReplyDeleteThey contain all the lessons. The exercises are on this site and free to download. I am working on getting all of the First Year Latin exercises uploaded.
DeleteThank you for sharing these resources. I've been searching for something like this and can't wait to get my order!
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome. I hope you find them helpful. I'm available for questions, too! :-)
ReplyDeleteYour site is indeed a blessing! Thank you so much for your generosity!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen,
ReplyDeleteHow much is shipping to the United Arab emirates?
Rebecca, I apologize for the delayed response. :-\
ReplyDeleteI'm not very good at figuring this kind of thing out. I did see a $60 rate via the U.S. Postal Service. I can tell you that each volume rounds up to 2 pounds. They would ship from zip code 77070. If you are able to find a method of shipping at a decent rate (or a rate that is acceptable to you), I'd be happy to put it together for you.
I'm sorry I'm not more help.
God bless,
Jen
Do you have quizzes for each lesson? How do we sign up for the online classes? How much are the classes?
ReplyDeleteI only have quizzes for the lessons that I use in my own classes. At this website (http://onlinelatincourses12and3.weebly.com/) I have information about my online classes. I won't have any new classes start up again until fall. Feel free to email me if you don't find the answers to your questions there, and/or you need more information.
DeleteThis is the updated link to my online classes which are offered through PREP in Houston. PREP is an organization that puts students and their families together with teachers in an effort to assist in the homeschooling effort. http://prepclasses.org/newsite/online_program_schedule.php
DeleteDo your study guides includes any lists of grammar rules that should be memorized in addition to the memorization of vocabulary cards?
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Anonymous :-)
DeleteThere are no lists, per se, but I have put the grammar rules in either blue or yellow boxes for each lesson (as shown above on the sample pages). Students are encouraged to flip through their guides, and review these "boxes" frequently. Some students choose to make lists themselves of these rules, and review them that way.
Does that help answer your question?
Would you please consider teaching an ONLINE Henle Latin II class for 2015-2016? Your resources have been an excellent tool for teaching/learning Latin! God Bless
ReplyDeleteThank you for the suggestion. I am going to offer three online classes this next school year, including High School II. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you!
DeleteThank you for your guide. They are going to save me so much time. My emerging ninth grader will be finishing Henle First Year, and your lesson plans will be helping BOTH of us! I love you verb sheets, too. They are really solidifying his understanding of conjugating the different tenses and moods. Thank you, thank you!
ReplyDeleteThank you Stacey! I think those verb synopsis sheets are like gold! I see a dramatic improvement in one's ability to conjugate verbs correctly after regular use of those. I'm glad you take the time use them, and I hope your son still enjoys studying Latin. :-)
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteWould you ever consider purchase for download so that we could print and bind ourselves? It would save you time and a trip to the post office! Thank you so much :) Hoping to use this for CC ChA.
It would definitely be easier, but I haven't figured out a way to keep the work secure. That is the hurdle I haven't been able to get over. :-)
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteWe just finished the Form series from Memoria Press. We are moving into Henle 2 and I really wanted a study guide to accompany it since that is the format my kids are accustomed to. Is the Henle 2nd Year Companion the one I need to order? Just wanted to verify since Henle 1 is split into 2 years.
Thanks, Melody
Hi Melody,
DeleteYes, that's right. You would need the SYL (Second Year Latin) Companion for Henle's book 2. I have not seen Fourth Form Latin (I teach First and Second Form then have students move into Henle's FYL), so I cannot comment on how much grammar is covered. When you review the table of contents in Henle's 2nd book, you will see that the first 16 lessons are review of the more 'involved' Latin grammar concepts that he taught in book 1. Since your students have not worked through Henle's first book, the exercises contained therein would be great review material if you find that they are struggling with a concept in one of those first 16 lessons.
All the exercises from book 1 are available here. I would encourage you to use them as a resource for any trouble spots that may arise.
I might also add that those review lessons really can't be skipped because Henle introduces new vocabulary in them, and also some finer detail to the grammar in some of the lessons. You'll see that right off the bat in Lesson One.
Blessings to you and your kids as you continue your Latin study. :-)
Thank you!
DeleteI will order your study guide in the next couple of weeks. They went through Third and Fourth Form which uses Henle 1 but obviously it was in addition to the Form workbooks so it is all a little confusing. I'm just not ready to tackle Henle without some help. So I was excited to find your website. ;)
Thanks again!
So if you have this study guide, do you actually need the Henle text and grammar books? Will it completely align with class assignments?
ReplyDeleteGreetings Mom of Three,
ReplyDeleteYou definitely need Henle's grammar book. It is a quick and easy way to look up grammar rules; some of the lessons refer the reader to a specific item # in the grammar text.
As far as the text goes, I leave that up to each family. There is a place online that has most, if not all, of the text uploaded. You can view particular pages that way, if you like.
As a teacher, I use the text book. The table of contents lets me know exactly where we are and the 'Essential' exercises are marked as such. Also, it tells me which exercises go with each lesson. That's especially useful for the instructor.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'aligning with class assignments.' Perhaps you could give me a little more information.
Thank you!
Do your study guides also serve as answer keys? The Henle key does not have answers to all the problems. Thank you! Danene
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Danene,
ReplyDeleteThere is not an answer key included with the study guides. I think you might be referring to the little white answer key that is sold by Memoria Press. It does not include all the declension and conjugation forms, but instead refers the reader to the Grammar.
If you ever have a question about the accuracy of those forms, you can pose the question to me or better yet, to the Henle Yahoo Discussion Group. They are very friendly and helpful there. That is where I started when I began my study, and they helped me through several rough patches. Hopefully this link will take you there (otherwise google Yahoo Discussion Group Latin Henle and it's the first one to pop up): https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/HenleLatin/info
I hope this has been helpful.
I cannot get all the materials I need into PayPal. Can you help?
ReplyDeleteYes, Deirdre, I can. I discovered a couple days ago that the PayPal buttons for the audio sets are not working. (I just haven't had a moment to find the solution.)
ReplyDeleteIf you email me (magistrajones@gmail.com) and let me know which audio sets you want, I will generate an invoice and send it to your email address. You can then pay it however you like, and I will email the audio files to you.
Thank you! And I apologize for the inconvenience.
Do you refer to the page numbers corresponding to the Henle Text in your study guide pages? I see the lesson numbers correspond, but I am not finding specific pages. My children are in Classical Conversations and go through the Henle Text Lessons 1-14, the first year; lessons 1-25 the 2nd year. Thank you for your help!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Bryce. I do not refer to specific page numbers; I work by Lesson numbers. They are specific, for instance, Lesson 1 has five sub-lessons, so the guide also divides that lesson into five groups: Lesson 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, etc.
DeleteA quick way to find the page number for each of these lessons is the table of contents in the Henle Latin text. They are broken out the exact same way with page numbers listed.
I hope I've answered your question. Thank you!
Confused about ordering. I think I just paypal-ed you but am not sure where to type in address for you to send.
ReplyDeleteSorry!
Deb
Deb,
DeleteI've not received anything this morning, but it may not have come through yet. (Did you order today?)
Typically, PayPal will instruct me to send the order to the address that is associated with your payment method (debit card, bank account, etc.). If you want your package sent to a different address you can either put that in the Instructions section when ordering, or email me and let me know.
I will watch for your order; if it doesn't come through we can work it out another way. You can email me (magistrajones@gmail.com) and let me know exactly what you want, and then I can generate an invoice and have it sent to your email address. You can then pay by whatever means you wish.
If you'll go ahead and email me, we can carry on this conversation that way. :-)
Thank you!
Dear Magistra Jones, Do you ever offer your study guides in a PDF form or downloadable version? We live in Cambodia and are super interested in purchasing your study guides. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer. I don't sell my guides in downloadable format. Why don't you email me and we can discuss ways to get a guide to you in Asia. magistrajones@gmail.com
DeleteSorry if this is a repeat question. I would like to buy this guide, but wonder how this differs from the ones you have on Scribd? I find Scribd to be a tad difficult to navigate at times. That may have changed since last year though. Thanks for you input.
ReplyDeleteGood Evening Tonya,
DeleteI agree, Scribd is not the easiest website to maneuver! I use that site for items that are downloadable and free of charge.
The Study Guide (Companion) is something different altogether. It is a printed, coil-bound book that explains each lesson in the Henle text books. My students found the text book and grammar book somewhat difficult to work from (small print, constantly switching back & forth between books, no comprehensive vocabulary lists, etc.). I've combined the information from the text and the grammar into one place. When ordered, I mail a hard copy of the book to the buyer.
Does that help answer your questions?
Hi Magistra,
DeleteI wanted to jump in because this reply answered the question I had. So, now my question is, since the companion follows the same material in both books, can I assume my answer key will be able to provide the answers to some of the questions on your worksheets? I have an updated copy of the the white answer book as it didn't have all of the answers. Thank you in advance for your time in this matter.
The worksheets are taken directly from the Henle FYL text. They are the Exercises from the book, so, the answer key would follow exactly.
DeleteDoes that answer your question?
God Bless,
Jen
I ordered volume 1 on July 31st and still have not received it. I was hoping to have it before I start classes on August 17th. Do you have any shipping information for my order?
ReplyDeleteWendy, All orders received in July have shipped. I cannot locate an order under your name ... please email me (magistrajones@gmail.com) so we can figure this out via email. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAre the study guides a "workbook" format...meaning are the exercises included? Or is this just something that goes along with and explains the other Henle books?
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Everyday Mom,
ReplyDeleteThe study guides are an expanded view of the lessons. On another page here are the Exercises from the Henle text. You can download those and use them whenever you like.
If you have specific questions about an order, it is best to email me directly at: magistrajones@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Magistra Jones,
ReplyDeleteI am a member of a Classical Conversations community and we are using Henle Latin for our Challenge A student. We are using the purple Henle Latin book. Would your study guide for First Year students go along with this study? Would we need both volumes one and two or just vol. one?
I have a son with dyslexia and visual scanning difficulties who would greatly benefit from your larger print and color format.
Many thanks,
Denise Leak
I am a Challenge B tutor with Classical Conversations and I highly recommend this Companion Guide for my students. You will still need the original books to complete the assignments but this is highly valued for its clarity of presentation. I use it weekly.
